ready for fall

I have a bad news/good news situation. The bad news is that my main computer has more involved problems than we originally realized, and we made the decision to call it a loss. The good news is that we have the money at the moment to build a machine better than what I had before. Better. Stronger. Faster. (gratuitous Six Million Dollar Man reference) Of course, this means a longer period of reduced computer time for me while I continue sharing my husband’s gaming computer. I’m using our laptop for most things, so it’s not a huge issue, but the laptop doesn’t work for SL. I’ll just be around more during the day and pretty much not at all in the evenings for at least another week or so and probably longer as I try to decide exactly what parts I need for the dream machine.

You might think this would slow my SL shopping down, but that’s not the case. All these coats keep tempting me. I’m just not handy enough with the prims yet to make all of them work for me, but I keep buying them. One coat that I bought and did manage to fit well is this really great Drifter coat by EtchD. It comes in the brown leather and black leather, and you also have a choice of 4 different designs for the back – Neko, Gunslinger, Native, and Roses. I went with Roses in brown leather, but now that I know I can make it fit, I’ll probably go back for at least one more. A nice touch with these coats is that they come with the option of the sweater I’m wearing underneath the coat or just the coat to wear over other tops you already own, so you’re getting multiple looks for just 350 lindens. The prim cuffs that pull down over your hands just a little are fun too.

I tried to show off the back of the coat, but the details are a little washed out here, so check it out in person! In case anyone is interested, I’m wearing the Artist hair from Miriel, which is an amazing bargain for the entire collection and one of my favorites and the Septembre 1 skin in Buff from Tête à Pied, which has quickly become a favorite. My clothing includes Mischief jeans with Shiny Things knit socks and black Lollies also from Shiny Things.

Highlighting Kindnesses

I’ve been very fortunate to meet some really amazing people through SL, and I’d like to take a few minutes to highlight some of them. A couple of them I’ve never formally met within SL, and others I see on an almost daily basis. Each of them has brought a smile to my face recently.

Rosie and Izzy are RL and SL best friends who have welcomed me with open arms since the first moment I met them. Lately, I’ve gotten to spend a little more time with them at the Club 9.13 1pm SLT events, and that’s been so much fun! Come check out the club some time. I’d love to meet more of you there!

Aradia is someone whose style I really admire. I commented on her review of the Maria outfit by Maria Gherardi about how much I loved the top but couldn’t really work with the no-mod skirts. Aradia gave me a very nice compliment and suggested contacting Maria, and then Maria herself offered to send me a mod version of the skirts.

Keiko has brightened SL with her music and also by just being such a welcoming person. I think Keiko concerts bring out the best people for some reason. At a recent concert, Serrafina Oh asked me if I’d consider doing a photo shoot with her for her Serendipity Studios portfolio, which shocked me to no end. I was more than happy to be putty in her hands after her kind words, and the couple of hours we spent doing that were so much fun. It was amazing how quickly the time flew, and I ended up with a couple of pretty photos to add to my profile as well as a new friend.

And those beautiful wings I’m wearing in the photo with this post are from Jen Shikami at Seven’s Selections. She gifted me with those after I purchased some other wings at her shop, and I was so happy to get to speak with her a little.

These skeery internetz people aren’t so bad after all! ;)

Danse Macabre

I think I have to admit that I’m hooked on SL and have become a bit of a fashion nut after waking up this morning and having my first thought be, “Just one more day until the Danse Macabre release party!” Tomorrow at 7pm SLT Hyasynth Tiramisu of Silent Sparrow and Draconic Lioncourt of Draconic Kiss are releasing their first joint design, and I’m going to make every effort to be there at the Silent Sparrow sim for the party.

I’m so unbelievably excited about it because Silent Sparrow and Draconic Kiss are two of my favorite “special occasion” shops. I don’t wear their clothing in my normal day-to-day activities, but they make such beautiful pieces that I find myself thinking of them as more art than fashion. In particular, Draconic Kiss has some fantastic dresses and wigs inspired by the 18th century that I buy even though I have nowhere to wear them.

I do get the chance to wear several of my Silent Sparrow outfits when I’m visiting Caledon. The photo I’m sharing here is me wearing a limited edition version of her Serendipity set in the peacock color. Isn’t it fabulous? The dress was lost in an inventory glitch right after I purchased it, and Hyasynth very kindly replaced it for me. She seems like such a nice person in addition to being an amazing artist.

I can’t wait to see what Hyasynth and Draconic have come up with together. There’s very little doubt that it will end up in my inventory.
